In early December, Barrage Design was approached by UYL Color Supply, Inc. to design a new logo for their business. UYL, beginning its fifth year of operation and relocation to new offices, decided it was an appropriate and timely juncture to identify their business by selecting a brand identity. UYL sells auto body paint and materials to body shops. Their main product line consists of Akzo Nobel, Lesanol paints. Now entering their fifth year of business, they have defined their business plan for the next five years to market to governmental and corporate entities such as municipal bus lines and commercial fleets. A training center will be established to provide information and hands-on application of the product lines. The center will provide information to customers about available materials and developing product lines.
After meeting with the client, Barrage formulated questions to assist the client in visualizing the concept of their new logo and the expectations it must meet. Aided by those questions, UYL was able analytically think about what they wanted their logo to symbolize and what message they wanted the customer to take away from a first impression. The conclusions were broad, with UYL determining that they wanted a logo that could communicate strength to wide demographic, both culturally and economically. Over the next few weeks Barrage Design and UYL collaborated in the design process, passing conceptual pieces back and forth while working to create a logo that would satisfy the needs of UYL today and in the future as their company expanded. On December 28, UYL hosted a reception at their new headquarters to unveil the new logo. It was enthusiastically embraced by those in attendance and acclaimed by company employees. Barrage was proud to be an important part of this pivotal evening for our client.
Following the unveiling, we contacted Yen Hoang, CEO of UYL Color Supply, Inc. to obtain a retrospective from them on the design process and how the experience matched their expectations.
[Barrage Design] What were your expectations going into the design process?
[Yen Hoang] That Barrage Design would design a great logo that truly symbolizes and embodies our company in which you did!
[BD] Did Barrage do a good job of walking you through a thought out design process and explaining the next step as the project went along?
[YH] Yes. Very thorough and detail oriented.
[BD] Did you learn anything from the experience?
[YH] I learned that I needed to have a logo that is simple enough to capture the average person’s memory yet unique enough that it would be retained in the average person’s memory. You definitely met that criteria for us.
[BD] How satisfied were you with the results?
[YH] I LOVE THE LOGO! Every time I look at it, it reminds me of hope, hard work, and ultimately success!
[BD] Any other general comments you’d like to make?
